This structural feature trends North-South through Ritchie County and consists in the surface and subsurface of a 1,500 ft high arch of rocks, and associated faults 40 miles long and 6 miles wide.

The Valentine well was originally drilled to approx 5000 feet in 1981 targeting the Devonian Shale, the upper zones were never completed. These upper zones consisting of the Big Injun, Berea and Gordon formations contain approximately 140 ft of oil bearing sands from 1600 to 2500 feet.
